Steven and I just finished watching the last of Joan of Arcadia, a DVD series of a show that was on a couple of years ago on CBS. We have been watching it for maybe six months, a few episodes at a time, on recommendation by our friend, Sarah Ashley. This series was a constant companion for us, one that inspired us, challenged us to think about our faith, and often made us cry. It is about a high-school girl named Joan, to whom God appears in the form of regular people on the street. He/she gives her certain assignments (which she often thinks are ridiculous), and shows her how her actions affect others, at times in dramatic ways. She is supposedly a modern day Joan of Arc, and yet is so much like any one of us.
I would recommend JoA (as fans lovingly call the show) to anyone, whether you believe in God or not. It is well-done and thought provoking, funny, and poignant. CBS took it off the air after the second season, due to "lack of interest." It might be that the show pushed too many of the wrong (right) buttons. You can find it on Netflix if you are interested.
We will miss you Joan!!!
